Research Assistant - Chemistry - (21001753)
Description
Under general supervision, the Research Assistant in the College of Science & Technology’s Chemistry Division provides professional level research support by organizing and carrying out experiments focused on chemical synthesis and biological assays, which includes synthesizing, purifying, and assaying chemical probes; analyzing characterization data; interpreting results; and creating lab reports that record detailed procedures and results of experiments with appropriate presentation in charts and tables. Makes corrective modifications and inventions in methodology, develops various experimental procedures to assist with the completion of multiple research projects, and the preparation and/or editing of research manuscripts for publication. Reviews and surveys literature, summarizes pertinent data, establishes, and maintains literature files. The Research Assistant will also be required to operate and maintain sophisticated laboratory equipment, assemble, and make minor repairs if necessary, and assist with the supervision of student workers by providing instructions on the use of equipment and the related research techniques. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and at least six months of related experience in a chemistry research laboratory. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills and Abilities:
*Ability to manage and prioritize several complex tasks simultaneously.
*Ability to learn new tasks and work with minimal supervision.
*Ability to interpret and perform general instructions and procedures.
*Strong interpersonal, written and analytical skills.
Preferred:
*Experience in an academic research environment.
