Position Overview
This project-focused appointment in biochemistry/molecular biophysics will support the research program of PI: Dr. Nicholas Reiter. The project will focus on methods associated with protein and nucleic acid purification and characterization, and on implementing novel applications to examine disease related oncoprotein-nucleic acid interactions in solution. Publications from the lab related to this topic: RNA. 22(8) 1250 (2016) and Biochemistry 56 (1):3-13 (2017).
Duties and Responsibilities
-Carry out research in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the improvement and optimization of protein purification protocols and the reconstitution of a disease-related oncoprotein in the presence and absence of a nucleic acid sequence. Design and carry out biochemical experiments that examine oncoprotein-nucleic acid interactions.
-Conduct research at the bench with a growing degree of independence, work well with others, and assist undergraduate/graduate students as an active member of the lab. Provide research summaries and reports monthly, help to write initial drafts of manuscripts, and meet regularly with PI to discuss next steps and lab expectations.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Candidate should have about 2 years of undergraduate experience in biological research and have a solid grasp of the principles of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Molecular Biophysics.
Prior experience and a working knowledge of protein purification and experience using computers to write reports and presentations are required.
Effective communication and organizational skills are important to successfully carry out this position.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
A background in the biochemistry of disease-related intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) is preferable.
