Job Description Summary:
A Research Assistant position is available for highly motivated individual.
Applicant must have a Bachelor of Science in biological sciences (or higher), experience in cell biology and/or neuroscience, and should be available for in-person interviews.
The Research Assistant position in Dr. LeVine’s lab will conduct research to study neurogenesis in mouse models of a lysosomal storage disease. The Research Assistant will have a variety of research duties including but not limited to animal handling, mouse injections, mouse behavior analyses, mouse perfusion, tissue harvesting and sectioning, confocal microscopy, general lab duties, etc.

Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor of Science in biology, neuroscience, or other science related field.
Work Experience:
Previous experience in working with laboratory animals.
Experience presenting and writing for a scientific audience.
Strong communications as evidence by application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Master of Science degree in biology or other science related field.
Work Experience:
Experience performing behavior studies on research animals.
Experience harvesting tissue and tissue sectioning.
Previous experience working as part of team.
Previous experience in performing immunohistochemistry and confocal microscopy.
Job Duties Outlined:
Perform general research experiments under the direction of the PI, including but not limited to:
Mouse experiments (injections, behavior analyses, perfusion, tissue harvesting)
Histology (sectioning, image collection, analysis of images)
Maintain mouse colony, animal breeding and genotyping.
Order lab supplies and general lab maintenance.
Participate in regular communication with the PIs via lab meetings and personal meetings.
Position also includes generation of data and its analysis for the preparation of published papers, as well as assistance on grant submissions and other documentation necessary for laboratory compliance.
Follow established quality control and quality assurance policies and procedures, including appropriate documentation.

Compensation Statement:
The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
