Research Assistant

Opening in 2004, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar is part of a reciprocal effort with the Qatar Foundation to bring excellent American educational undergraduate programs to the Middle East. We are seeking a research Assistant in Information Systems in our Qatar Campus.

This is a part -time research assistant position (17 hours per week) and the candidate should be based in Qatar and should know Arabic very well. The position is initially until end of May 2023 with the possibility of an extension.

We are looking for candidates with background in computer science or information systems or computer linguistics to work on the QNRF funded project entitled “ Resources and Applications for Detecting and Classifying Polarized and Hate Speech in Arabic Social Media” . Core responsibilities include:

1- Data collection, annotation, manipulation

2- Support research tasks and contribute to project deliverables

3- Contribute to the programing of demonstrators and prototypes (Python)

4- Document detailed research records and write reports

5-Fluency in Arabic is required for this project
