Job Overview

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients.

 

A full time Research Assistant position is available in the laboratory of Krushna Patra, PhD in the Department of Cancer Biology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. The research focus of the lab is to understand the interplay of cellular signaling and metabolism in the tumorigenesis processes. The employee will have the opportunity to be involved in the active research environment to answer important questions related to the development and treatment of pancreatic and other gastrointestinal cancer. This experience will be valuable to pursue graduate school, medical school or other related higher studies. With active involvement in the research projects, the candidate will share authorship in the publications from the laboratory.


Essential Functions

The primary duty of the position is to:

  • Assist in performing experiments related to tissue culture (maintenance of cancer cells and organoids) and molecular biology (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, cloning, biochemical assays and, western blot).
  • Records data according to research protocols.
  • Interpret data and assist in judging validity of data. May perform statistical and graphical analysis of data.
  • Assist in animal colony management and animal husbandry.
  • Apply research principals for less complex assignments.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.

 


Required Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in any disciplines of biological sciences (such as biology, genetics or in a related field).
  • Five (5) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

 


Required Experience

Additional related work experience may be required depending on field or discipline.


Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Prior laboratory research experience such as hands-on training in molecular biology techniques.
  • Knowledge in Microsoft word, Excel and PowerPoint to record and organize experimental data, and animal (mouse) handling will be given preference.

 


Physical Requirements/Work Environment
  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
