Job Description:

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, Ashish K. Jha, Professor of Health Services, Policy and Practice and Dean of Public Health, the Research Assistant will work on a variety of multidisciplinary research projects pertaining to disease outbreaks, pandemics, and health care quality.

The Research Assistant will work closely with multiple faculty members and other research team members on a wide range of project-related tasks, including data collection, literature reviews and synthesis, drafting of reports, organization of project materials, and assistance with development of research proposals.  The Research Assistant will also conduct structured interviews, interact with remote consultants or team members, coordinate project communications, and development of scientific reports and presentations. Additional related tasks as necessary.

Under nominal direction, performs a variety of non-laboratory research and administrative tasks determined by the field and scope of the particular research study. Works as part of a team in compiling and analyzing results, reporting experiment results using a variety of scientific, word processing, spreadsheet or statistical software applications.  These tasks may be performed independently and/or without direct supervision in an on- or off-site location.

Major Responsibilities:

Supporting Actions: Analyze state and national data on COVID19 outbreak, largely descriptive but some analytics work. Review and summarize output of analyses using Excel, R, or other statistical software. Present data and draft tables under direction of supervisor. This could also include conducting structured interviews and interaction with remote consultants or team members.

  • 2. Major Responsibility:     Assist Supervisor with report preparation     % 30

Supporting Actions:   Under direction of supervisor, prepare tables and graphs for final report, prepare study documents for scientific posters, methods and results sections of reports and manuscripts.    

  • 3. Major Responsibility:  Literature review and summary % 40

Supporting Actions:  Under direction of supervisor, carries out extensive literature review of both published and non-published work, examining peer-reviewed literature, grey literature, reports, and other sources. Synthesizes the findings and writes up reports.

The Research Assistant would be free to make decisions related to matters including: 

  • Prioritize multiple research activities.

  • Make judgments necessary to conduct the most relevant and up-to-date statistical research possible once specific goals have been defined by Principal Investigator

Job Qualifications and Competencies:

Education

Required:  Bachelorâ™s degree (BA or BS) with 1 year experience in health services research (or related field). Coursework in related fields can substitute for experience. 

Experience

Experience with healthcare data, medical literature review

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses a computer which results in repetitive motion. 

 Physical Demands:

This is largely a sedentary role that involves sitting most of the time. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures.
