Job Description:
Research Assistant (RA) activities include collection, organization, scoring and entering of data collected from research participants, with a particular (but not exclusive) focus on clinical trials of novel pharmacotherapies for adolescents and adults with problematic alcohol and other substance use. In addition, RA activities can include completing library research. The RA is expected to work with individuals participating in addictions-related research to be assessed during laboratory research protocols and in real-world settings using experience sampling methods, as well as with significant others (e.g., spouses, partners, parents or close friends) of research participants.
Job Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Previous research experience through academic training or previous work experience required.
Ability to work independently is required
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills required
Flexibility in work schedule is required, including some evening and possibly weekend hours
The RA must provide his or her own transportation to research sites.
Must be flexible with time to facilitate recruitment and maximize retaining of study participants
Experience working in a clinical setting or with a clinical population preferred (i.e., psychiatric hospital, emergency department, youth, etc.).
Experience working on a clinical trial is strongly preferred
Coursework in research design and experience with research is preferred
Experience in programming online surveys (e.g., Qualtrics software) is preferred
Experience managing databases is preferred
Coursework in addiction, substance abuse and/or psychopharmacology is preferred
Clinical experience in screening potential research participants preferred
Experience with managing biological samples (urine rapid tests, blood samples) desired
Some IRB and FDA experience preferred
Experience with phlebotomy (i.e., collecting blood samples) or willingness to complete phlebotomy training is preferred (but not required)
