Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Research Assistant - Biological Sciences at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):

• Perform histology using iDISCO to render tissue optically transparent.

• Work in a Linux environment at the command line to use image registration and other
related tools.

• Write and integrate simple Python and/or R scripts with command line tools.

• Assist with the collection and/or processing of brain samples.

• Optimize image registration parameters.

• Train machine learning algorithms to identify cells from 3D brain image.

•Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Minimum of a bachelor's degree in the sciences or engineering (e.g., biology,
neuroscience, biomedical engineering, pharmacology, chemistry, physics, etc.).

• Strong quantitative reasoning skills

• Basic understanding of image processing.

• Comfortable working at the command line and in a Linux environment.

• Intermediate proficiency working in Python or R.

• Strong organizational skills.

• Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work with people from different
backgrounds and countries.

• Able to work both independently and with others.


Preferred qualifications:

Prior experience working with animals (zebrafish or rodents). Wet lab research experience. Experience in supervision.
