Job Summary
Seeking a Research Assistant to join the team at the College of Veterinary Medicine. This position provides administrative and professional support to research programs and projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for equipment, materials, and support of laboratory operations. Provides routine support of protocols/plans, documentation, observation, sample and data collection. Records, processes, interprets and presents data.
Work includes receiving and archiving biological specimens in -80 freezer, nucleic acid extractions, electrophoresis, sequencing library preparations, PCR, quantitative PCR, quality control using TapeStation, fluorimeters, and spectrophotometers, as well as other genomics lab tasks. Mine electronic medical records and link metadata with corresponding biospecimens. Work is performed under general guidance and is checked for compliance with protocols/plans; the incumbent is expected to make some independent judgments and decisions. Effective communication skills are preferred for collaboration with other laboratories, departments within the College of Veterinary Medicine, as well as other partner institutions.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences, biological sciences, molecular biology, microbiology, animal sciences, or other related discipline and no experience.
