Position Focus:

The Research Assistant will support the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development Study  ABCD Yale site. The ABCD Study focuses on a cohort of nearly 12,000 participants who were 9 to 10 years old at baseline and are currently being followed for 10 years. Youths and their families provide rich details about their environmental experiences and undergo extensive phenotypic, cognitive, genetic, emotional, health, and neuroimaging assessments. The ABCD Study site at Yale University is located within the Department of Psychology  at Yale and works with over 600 families per year. The Research Assistant will support the project in multiple ways, including overseeing day-to-day operations, interacting with families, collecting data (e.g., self-report data and biosamples), ensuring adherence to ABCD standard operating procedures, and consulting with community organizations. This position is a one-year fixed duration with the possibility of extension dependent on funding. The incumbent must be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule to include weekends and evenings and must live locally or be willing to relocate to New Haven, CT. Must have a driver’s license and car to conduct in-home testing.


Essential Duties

1. Researches and collects data through site or home visit intakes; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for research projects. 2. Interprets, synthesizes, and analyzes data using scientific or statistical techniques. Modifies and plans research experiments, procedures, tests, or survey instruments. Assists in research design. 3. Writes and edits material for publication and presentation. Reports on status of research activities. Oversees and instructs research and support staff on technical procedures, equipment operation, and laboratory maintenance. 4. Schedules and coordinates research activities. Identifies and recruits study participants. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. 5. May assist in preparing financial information and monitoring budgets. 6. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities.


Required Education and Experience

Two years of related work experience in the same job family and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.


Required Skill/Ability 1:

Experience and highly proficient at testing human participants from the community including children and adolescents; demonstrated comfort and proven ability to establish rapport with participants; sensitivity to working with developmental and clinical populations.


Required Skill/Ability 2:

Excellent written and verbal skills, interpersonal skills, communication skills, and ability to work as part of a large team.


Required Skill/Ability 3:

Demonstrated and excellent organizational skills.  Timeliness, accuracy, reliability, attention to detail and ability to multitask. 


Required Skill/Ability 4:

Must have a valid driver’s license and car to conduct in-home testing.


Required Skill/Ability 5:

General computing proficiency including Mac and Windows OS, Microsoft Office and Photoshop/Illustrator


Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Prior experience working on large-scale research studies and testing human participants; prior experience managing data and with questionnaire software (e.g., REDCap).
