Research Assistant 2-B/H will assist and support the scientific investigation to study the mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration as directed by the Department of Neurology. The Saez Atienzar Lab performs cell biology experiments and computational analysis. The candidate will be working on bench and dry lab environments. However, computational background is not required. The candidate will independently conducts assigned experiments and computational analysis (simple tasks); performs a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques and procedures including  PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures; tests and evaluates current procedures; records, consolidates and assists with analysis of research results; assists in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures; summarizes data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts; prepares research progress reports; assists principal investigator with the preparation of  publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts; conducts library research on requested topics through researching current literature; oversees and maintains accurate records of laboratory activities; assists with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation; sets up and operates laboratory equipment; monitors research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiates procurement requests as needed; obtains quotes from different vendors, coordinates new equipment/ reagent arrivals.

Minimum Education and Skills/Experience Required/Desired
A Bachelor’s degree in a biological/health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required. Requires successful completion of a background check. Qualified candidates may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.
