This is a research internship position in a synthetic organic chemistry laboratory. The individual will learn synthetic chemistry techniques including reaction setup, handling or organic liquids, extractions, and purification using column chromatography. The individual will aid in the synthesis of organic ligands used for coordinating transition metal complexes. The individual should be available to work in the laboratory for up to 10 hours a week and must complete online training modules in chemical safety.

 

Essential Functions

  • Collect and Analyze data.
  • Organize and prepare for publication.
  • Collaborate with Faculty advisor on revisions and drafts to finalize publication.
  • Train other undergraduate researchers in lab safety and procedures.
  • Review, assess, and edit student projects and data.
  •  Participate in weekly lab meetings.

 

Education/Experience/Skills

Minimum required: High School Chemistry

 

Employee Class: 1/2 Time (17.5 hour)
Work Location: Provo Campus
Environment: Rare presence of abnormal variations in temperature and exposure to outside conditions

Physical Exam Details: Exposure to hazardous chemicals 1-2 hours/day 5 days a week PPE, lab coat, close toed shoes, goggles, gloves
