Position Focus:

Provides technical assistance to the Yale Center for Genome Analysis for Next Generation Sequencing, Microarray and/or other genomic analyses. Prepares samples for sequencing on various Next Generation Sequencing platforms. This work will be performed in a core lab environment where the same assays will be performed routinely. Maintains, operates and troubleshoots problems for laboratory equipment. Provides assistance when needed to other groups within YCGA. Performs additional functions incidental to core lab activities under the supervision of the lab managers and the facility directors. This position will be off shift work:  Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday: 11:00 am-7:00 pm and Wednesdays 12:00 pm-8:00 pm, following an approximately 3 month training period during 1st shift, M-F, 9am-5pm.


Essential Duties

1. Researches and collects data through complex laboratory/ scientific experiments, techniques, and procedures; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for designated research assignments. 2. Records and compiles information related to research data. Codes data accordingly to research specifications. Uses a computer terminal to input and retrieve data and to generate reports. Processes and summarizes data using scientific or statistical techniques. 3. Assists in data interpretation and analyses. Reports on status of research activities. Sets up, operates and maintains laboratory equipment and apparatus. 4. Formulates and prepares scientific solutions and media. Recruits study participants. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. 5. May assist in designing, developing, and modifying research experiments, procedures, or survey instruments. May oversee and instruct research staff. 6. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities.


Required Education and Experience

Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.


Required Skill/Ability 1:

Proven ability with next generation sequencing Illumina NovaSeq platform and both manual and automated sequencing libraries preparations, experience with FFPE manual and automated DNA extraction, experience with target sequencing techniques.


Required Skill/Ability 2:

Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills to interact with internal co- workers and other YCGA contacts.


Required Skill/Ability 3:

Proven ability to work in a team environment and work cooperatively with others including the training others when needed.


Required Skill/Ability 4:

Proven ability to follow protocols to run assays, formulate and prepare scientific solutions and media.


Required Skill/Ability 5:

Proven ability to work in an environment which requires meeting deadlines.


Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Bachelors in Molecular Biology or Biology.
