The University of Michigan Injury Prevention Center (UMIPC) is seeking an outstanding candidate to support its research administration activities, under the direction of the managing director and center faculty as needed. The University of Michigan Injury Prevention Center in the Emergency Medicine Department is one of nine CDC-funded Injury Control Research Centers nationally, that conducts, translates, and accelerates injury prevention research into practice and policy to reduce the burden of injuries across the Great Lakes and US. The center carries out research, training, and outreach activities, in collaboration with other research units at the University, as well as external injury prevention organizations, such as the state health department. The successful candidate will contribute primarily to the Center's research mission and will have opportunities to work on a variety of injury-related projects.

Under the general direction of the managing director the candidate will work both independently and as part of a collaborative team. The candidate should have a general understanding of academic research, basic elements of research administration (e.g.,' research ethics; acquiring IRB approvals) and have a strong desire to learn about the injury prevention discipline.

  • Oversee administrative components of the IPC Research Core (meeting agenda, project updates, recording and reporting back meeting minutes)
  • In partnership with the Research Core Director oversee the center pilot grant portfolio, including progress reporting, monitoring budget progress, and documenting publications and grant applications resulting from pilot projects.
  • Oversee and complete biannual progress reporting for the UMIPC grant, including organization of all progress report elements, and working with center stakeholders such as faculty, pilot project PIs, and UMIPC core project PIs, to get all required progress reporting ready for submission to reporting agency.
  • Ability to complete complex Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications and amendments for center-affiliated projects through eresearch.
  • Assist faculty with the preparation of grant submissions (e.g., locating relevant references, or assisting with drafting of the human subjects protection plan)
  • In partnership with senior leadership, oversee organization of annual research symposium.
  • Assist study PIs with participant tracking and database management on center, and center-affiliated, projects as needed.
  • Assist in acquiring research funding including writing grant proposals
  • Create surveys and summarize data using Qualtrics

Sr. Requirements

  • Master's degree in a related discipline (social science, public health)
  • 5-6 years of experience at any level of academic research, ideally familiarity with IRB applications, scientific writing, and the structure of grant proposals
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team. 
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work on multiple different projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to use available resources to independently complete tasks.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to learn new skills under supervision.
  • Exposure to database management and tracking of incoming data in primary data collection studies.

Intermediate Requirements:

  • Bachelor?s in a related discipline (public health, social sciences)
  • 2-7 years of experience at any level of academic research 
  • Demonstrated ability to complete Institutional Review Board applications and annual reports 
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team and strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional demeanor and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work on multiple different projects
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to use available resources to independently complete tasks
  • Ability to learn new skills under supervision
  • Experience working directly with faculty in a related discipline

 

 

 


 


 

 

 

 

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
