The Center for Healthcare Outcomes and Policy (CHOP) aims to improve the efficiency of healthcare in the United States by optimizing clinical practice and informing health policy. The Center conducts health services research and launches innovative large-scale quality improvement interventions. The Center is seeking a Research Area Specialist to support the work of Dr. David Odell, Dr. Raymond Jean and Dr. Chigo Ekeke. Dr. Odells research is focused on cancer care delivery, healthcare quality, patient safety, process improvement and disparities, focused in thoracic oncology, specifically lung cancer research. Dr. Raymond Jeans research is focused on studying and improving preoperative outcomes and mitigating disparities in surgical care, specifically in the domain of trauma surgery and critical care. Dr. Ekekes research interests are focus on translational, innovative and clinical research.
The Research Area Specialist will conduct primary research and participate in study development, data analysis, and preparation of manuscripts for publication. The position will also support the groups ongoing research agenda by coordinating and organizing meetings, providing research support, supporting statistical analysts, supporting operational and administrative activities, project managing grant proposals and manuscript submissions, and liaising with the grants administration team to ensure effective stewardship of funds.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Research project management including documenting meetings, project timelines, and review of progress toward project milestones.
- Proactively identify problems or roadblocks to research progress, and implementation of solutions.
- Contribute to development of research protocol and criteria.
- Institutional Review Board submissions including new projects, continuing reviews and amendments.
- Manage grant budget and purchasing, as well as oversee annual progress reports to funders, including budget projections and justifications.
- Reviewing relevant academic literature and assisting with references (Mendeley, Zotero), manuscript writing, manuscript preparation, data analysis and interpretation.
- Provide support to both faculty and the grants administration team for grant proposal preparation/submission and annual progress reports.
- Maintenance of publication compliance in NCBI (i.e. My Bibliography)
- Contribute to the preparation of conference presentations and abstract submission.
- Manage media outreach and dissemination (i.e. Twitter and coordinating with publishing journals).
- Other duties as assigned.
Intermediate level:
- 5-6 years of related experience, i.e., published in a field of specialty and academic knowledge in a field or discipline.
- Bachelors degree in health sciences, communications, business or a relevant field.
Associate level:
- 1-3 years of related experience, i.e., published in a field of specialty and academic knowledge in a field or discipline.
- Bachelors degree in health sciences, communications, business or a relevant field.
Both
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Must be proficient in Microsoft software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to prioritize with general supervision and complete assignments in a timely manner.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Interest in health services research and health policy.
- Experience using reference management software (e.g. Mendeley).
- Experience using statistical analysis software (Stata, SAS).
- Clinical or clinical research experience is a plus but not required.
- Masters degree preferred.
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
We support flexible work arrangements, this position is eligible for hybrid work.
