Department Summary
We have over 4,000 students at UNT Engineering, with about 250 enrolled in our doctoral programs. In total, the College of Engineering offers 4 doctoral, 10 master’s, and 11 bachelor’s degree programs in biomedical engineering, computer science, computer engineering, information technology, electrical engineering, materials science and engineering, mechanical and energy engineering, construction engineering technology and mechanical engineering technology, which prepare our students to compete in today’s global market. Additionally, the college has established multiple 3+2 education programs with universities in India and China.
Position Overview
This position is responsible for assisting researchers in the College of Engineering with proposal development (preparation, review for compliance with guidelines, submission, etc.) and serving as a liaison between researchers and the Office of Grants and Contracts Administration regarding funding requirements and proposal guidelines at the pre-award stage. Duties include reviewing terms and conditions of sponsored program opportunities and disseminating necessary information to researchers. The position will provide proposal development support for PIs involved in grantsmanship under the supervision of the college proposal manager.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in related field and three years of relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Clear, effective communication skills; e.g. emails to ask about or convey rules, 
 regulations and procedures or ability to explain same verbally. 
• Interpersonal skills to maintain excellent relationships with researchers and 
 various offices across the level of the institution. 
 • Time management skills including ability to work under pressure to meet 
 deadlines. 
• Attention to detail and high level of accuracy. 
• Prior knowledge of pre- or post-award administration regulations and 
 procedures. 
• General administrative experience with budgets, purchasing, payroll, travel, 
 scheduling with specific skill in budget planning, analysis, reconciliation and 
 forecasting. 
• Problem-solving skills; being flexible and creative within regulations. 
• Ability to determine when decisions can be appropriately made and when they 
 must be referred to a higher level, to protect institutional integrity. 
• Curiosity and willingness to learn new things and manage change processes. 
• Ability to gather, analyze, synthesize information from a variety of sources and 
 prepare reports and graphical displays, as requested by the head of the unit. 
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. 
• Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
Preferred Qualifications
3 years prior experience with proposal development at university departmental level.

Job Duties


o
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UNT policies and procedures as well as sponsor, state, and federal regulations governing submissions of proposals for external funding. Identifies and makes recommendations for and implements changes in policies and procedures. Interpret and explain sponsor guidelines and federal policies and procedures governing awards to staff, faculty, DRCs, and administrators as needed. Assist UNT CENG researchers and their proposals in adhering to these regulations.
o
Attends as needed meetings related to research issues.
o
Assist both the PI and Office of Grants and Contracts Administration (OGCA) in managing timelines and deadlines to achieve timely proposal submissions. Initiate meetings with PIs and DRCs to address any issues as needed
o
Assist PI’s and DRC’s from various departments within the college in preparation of forms, budgets and justifications for proposals and awards. Maintain working knowledge of sponsor requirements, systems, and forms, as well as Research Services forms and processes, i.e. Budget Builder, Budget Justificaiton, Current and Pending,Routing, Cost Share, and Budget Revision forms. Provides CAYUSE related support for PIs.

Maintain a working relationship with the staff of the UNT Office of Grants and Contracts Administration to maximize information and communication between OGCA and CENG.
o
Communicate and work with faculty and research groups to understand and navigate through all steps of grant submission.
o
Directly support in the development and preparation of grant proposals.
o
Assist CENG Researchers in finding funding opportunities in their field of research and dissiminating a newsletter of funding opportunities on a monthly bases.
