About the Department
 

The Center for Health and the Social Sciences (CHeSS) provides the infrastructure to advance interdisciplinary research and training in health and social sciences at the University of Chicago. Housed under the Dean of the Biological Sciences Division's office, the Center supports and promotes innovation and collaboration as well as excellence in research, scholarship and training. CHeSS serves as an incubator of ideas and supporter of research in health and the social sciences, sponsors seminars and workshops on campus, invites nationally-known scholars and policymakers to speak on a variety of topics, supports the writing and submission of grant applications and fundraising proposals, coordinates new research initiatives and projects, manages several training programs and provides expert research methods consultation during formative and operational phases of investigations. Within the Center, the Program in Oral Health conducts research and training related to oral health and associated systemic health conditions. The Program in Oral Health has designed a 5-year randomized controlled study to study the effects of no-fee basic dental care on overall quality of life and systemic health of older adults. The Program works with other University of Chicago and external investigators on oral health projects. The Program works closely with UCM Section of Hospital Medicine and CHeSS’ Methods.

Job Summary
 

The Research Analyst will play a critical role in supporting the Program in Oral Health at UChicago for the 2024-25 academic year. The role will primarily work on conducting scholarly research, writing literature reviews, analyzing data collected, drafting proposals and manuscripts, and presenting scholarly findings. Specifically, they willy work with Dr. David Kim (Department of Medicine and Public Health Sciences) on the development and validation of the US Oral Health Microsimulation (OHM) model for older adults. The US OHM model aims to predict national trajectories of oral health (tooth decay, tooth loss, and periodontal disease), oral-health-related health outcomes (e.g., diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, oral cancers), and economic outcomes (oral health and general health care use and associated spending) among older adults. The position will also provide analytical support to other oral health related projects in the Program in Oral Health as needed.

Responsibilities

• Conducting scholarly research, writing literature reviews and presenting scholarly findings.

• Data analysis and programming.

• Drafting proposals and manuscripts.

• Protects patients and data confidentiality by ensuring security of research data and personal health information and compliance with federal regulations and sponsor protocols.

• Understands the federal research regulations and identifies the federal research organizations’ role in regulating human research participation.

• May prepare and maintain protocol submissions and revisions.

• Prepares for or participate in quality assurance audits conducted by study sponsors, federal agencies, or specially designated review groups.

• Participates in study-related documentation, such as protocol worksheets, procedural manuals, adverse event reports, institutional review board documents, or progress reports.

• Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.

• Maintains recruiting and scheduling research subjects; assisting with developing or amending study protocols; assisting with developing data collection tools; assisting with building databases; and providing general administrative support. Has general awareness in research techniques or methods, regulatory policies and procedures, and relevant scientific field.

• Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
