Under direction of faculty member, assist project operations of the Marine Ecology & Acoustics Lab within the Institute of Environment. Research focus on understanding the processes that mediate behavioral and distributional patterns in marine organisms.

  • Assists in examining the operational status of all sampling equipment in the lab prior to field activities. Performs maintenance and repairs of sampling equipment under the direction of research staff.
  • Performs quality control on field data and conducts analysis of data using statistical procedures in Echoview and R. Interprets results and prepares written reports for funding agencies.
  • Collaborates with scientific reports and papers for the referred literature. Disseminate project results in peer reviewed scientific journals
  • Assists research staff in conducting field work and supporting data collection and analysis activities focusing on the use of acoustics to study fish associated with complex habitats in the Gulf of Mexico and South Atlantic. This effort includes participating in fieldwork occurring on ships and overnight travel.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory guidelines

 

Bachelor's degree in a related field.

  • Education in Biology, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Skills in data analysis and scientific writing as well as leading research teams conducting field work.
  • Knowledge of basic marine ecology and water quality concepts, laboratory and field QA/QC protocols for environmental sampling and analysis, laboratory safety procedures, small vessel operation, navigation and safety.

$38,000 - $40,000

Begin time: 8:30 AM
End time: 5:00 PM
