Research Analyst Data Manager - University of South Carolina

Description:

The University of South Carolina Arnold School of Public Health, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics has an opening for a full-time, data analyst/data manager for a minimum of two years, possibly longer. This position will fill the role of a Data Analyst and the Data Manager for two grant-funded research studies on diabetes.

Responsibilities:

  • Use SAS, R and potentially SQL code to clean, conduct quality control and develop structured datasets
  • Design, develop, and program methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze unstructured, diverse “big data” from electronic medical records
  • Interact regularly with multidisciplinary teams at health care institutions across South Carolina
  • Develop analytic plans, write, and execute statistical programs utilizing cross-sectional and longitudinal designs and analysis methods, and prepare visual data displays in the form of tables, graphs, and maps

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in a public health or clinical research environment, specific foundational knowledge of the science of population-level surveillance
  • Prior experience developing analytic proposals and conducting descriptive and hypothesis-driven analyses of cross-sectional and longitudinal data using statistical software
  • Understanding of relational databases; prior experience analyzing large electronic health record datasets
  • Experience with SAS and R programming.
  • Excellent scientific or technical writing skills and communication skills

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, statistics, data science, healthcare informatics, computer science or a recognized field which is directly related to the duties of this position
  • Expertise with SAS, Access, SAS, R, and other statistical, data management and data visualization languages/syntaxes
  • Preferred experience working in an academic research environment, public health entity, healthcare company or managed care environment with a focus on analyzing large healthcare datasets
  • Prior experience developing analytic proposals and conducting descriptive and hypothesis-driven analyses using statistical software
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, apply and document data management methods
