Major Duties

Under the general direction of the Associate Director of Academic Analytics, the Research Analyst / Data Consultant responds to ad-hoc data requests by communicating with requestors across campus and providing interpretive analyses and brief summaries of data. The incumbent serves as point of contact for data requests for faculty-initiated projects. 

  • Interprets and analyzes data for graphic presentation in Tableau, including creating required datasets, and designing and updating dashboards.
  • Initiates, conceptualizes, and conducts analyses, including inferential statistics, for descriptive, interpretive, and evaluative purposes.
  • Conceptualizes, creates, and maintains visualizations and other graphic presentations of institutional data in Tableau for campus stakeholders.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university. Additional qualifying professional experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible technical research or statistical experience including or supplemented by one year in the interpretation and graphic presentation of data. Graduate study in the social sciences, economics, mathematics, statistics, public or business administration or engineering may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience with working with a variety of campus audiences, including faculty, administrators, and staff, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of statistical principles and procedures, including methods for organizing and coding data for statistical analyses and basic statistical techniques, such as correlation, regression, and t-test/ANOVA. Thorough knowledge of spreadsheet software for data summaries and analyses (e.g., MS Excel), including basic formulas for data summaries and pivot tables.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and managing large datasets and creating user-friendly dashboards using business intelligence software tools such as Tableau.
  • Ability to analyze situations accurately and develop an effective course of action and ability to work effectively on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse faculty, staff, and students. Strong interpersonal skills and effective oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working in an office/department of Institutional Research or Institutional Effectiveness.
  • Successful completion of graduate-level coursework in statistics and/or research methods.
  • Thorough knowledge of Tableau BI for creating dashboards and data sources.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver and more.
  • Classification: Research Technician III / 5680 / grade 1
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $5880 - $6089 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $5028 - $9097 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday; may include evenings and weekends.  
  • This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period. 
  • The position is currently hybrid (4 days in office, 1 day remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
