Job Summary

The Research Analyst, Cancer Immunotherapy Program (CIP), will have primary responsibility for providing administrative support for the programmatic development and management of the CIP. The CIP Research Analyst will have the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks and work well with faculty, staff, patients, providers, and research partners such as the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy (PICI).  PICI’s mission is to accelerate the development of breakthrough immune therapies to turn cancer into a curable disease. The CIP Research Analyst is expected to provide executive support for this wide array of activities, including support for the clinical research program and laboratory.

The CIP Research Analyst will also provide grant support including identification of funding opportunities, writing, editing and facilitating correspondence; budget and resource management in coordination with Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (HDFCCC) administration; development and donor outreach; coordination of leadership and scientific committees, meetings and events and participation in program meetings and retreats. The CIP Research Analyst is expected to provide administrative support and coordination of activities that may include but not limited to: grant development, donor development and outreach, coordination of leadership and scientific committees and educational programs, meetings, and events. The CIP Research Analyst may also assist the clinical research team with administrative support needs (e.g., regulatory documents, research meetings) under the direction of the Program Nurse Manager. 


Department Description

The mission of the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (HDFCCC) Cancer Immunotherapy Program (CIP) is to provide patients and their families with streamlined access to cutting-edge cancer immunotherapies. In addition to providing compassionate, patient-centered care, our team of clinicians and researchers is dedicated to improving outcomes for all patients by gaining a better understanding of the role the immune system plays in fighting cancer. The collaborative and innovative approach of the UCSF HDFCCC CIP will allow for rapid advancements in scientific discovery and ultimately, to better clinical outcomes for patients with cancer. The CIP encompass multiple initiatives including a clinical trials component that includes our cancer immunotherapy clinics located at UCSF’s Ambulatory Care Center on the Parnassus campus and Precision Cancer Medicine Building at the Mission Bay campus, a laboratory science program that includes basic science/translational research with an immune monitoring core (Cancer Immunotherapy Lab), and both public and scientific outreach efforts.


Required Qualifications

•    Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
•    Advanced skills in Outlook, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher), Adobe Acrobat, Visio, Internet browser, and scanning software
•    Experience and proficiency in complex electronic calendaring
•    Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with and represent an executive to many different constituencies including university staff, faculty, and leadership, funding agencies, donors, other institutions, government and community-based organizations
•    Proven excellent analytical and independent problem-solving skills, organizational coordination and prioritization skills and ability to produce detail oriented and accurate documents and reports
•    Knowledge of personnel, accounting, procurement and institutional practices and procedures
•    Ability to research University policies (i.e., University of California Office of the President (UCOP), campus, Academic personnel manual)
•    Working knowledge of budget development for grant proposals, including direct experience with tracking revenues and expenditures
•    Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns
•    Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff verbally and in writing


Preferred Qualifications

•    Master’s degree in health or education administration, public health, or business administration
•    Minimum 5 years of professional level experience
•    Solid organizational skills and ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes
•    Working knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs
•    Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality
•    Sense of humor and patience
•    Previous experience as an Executive Assistant providing support to a dynamic position requiring discretion and judgment in daily activities
•    Previous experience supporting professional activities of a Department Chair, Principal Investigator (PI) and/or senior faculty member
•    Previous experience in a health care or academic research environment
•    Previous experience with contracts and grants documentation, forms and processes
•    Prior UCSF experience
•    Experience in organizational planning, communications, and marketing in a fast-paced environment
