The Alman Lab 

Fully grant funded: A One Year Appointment with possible renewal 

Occupational Surgery 

Conduct a variety of investigations in the planning, development, and implementation of experimental procedures with the overall scope of an NIH Grant awarded to study exercise Induced muscle secreted factors that modify osteoarthritis (OA) severity and similar studies in Orthopaedic Surgery. Experience in mouse colony maintenance, breeding and genotyping of genetically modified animals, cell culture, molecular analysis, and proteomic analysis will be useful with the overall work in this position. This position will work with Dr. Benjamin Alman and Dr. Samuel Adams. 

Conduct a variety of investigations in the planning, development and implementation of experimental procedures and specialized laboratory techniques in the analysis of materials under experimentation. This will include mouse or rodent surgery, both vascular catherizations and open procedures. 

Collect information and data through observation, experimentation and various other methods, to include operating highly technical laboratory instruments and equipment. Maintain data, records, data analysis and scientific reports as required by grant and department. 

Prepare tissue and specimens for complex procedures, and devise experimental techniques for tests and analyses.Evaluate and interpret collected data and prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions. 

Confer with principal investigator in determining specific experiments to be included in the research protocol and to discuss the interpretation of results. 

Review journals, abstracts and scientific literature to keep abreast of new developments and to obtain information regarding previous experiments to aid in the design and development of original procedures and techniques. 

Join a lab with several analysts and trainees to work on this NIH and other grant funded projects. Supervise, train and instruct residents, interns, students or lower level personnel in laboratory techniques and procedures as needed. 

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.


Minimum Qualifications
Education

Work requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.


Experience

Work requires two years of research experience. A related master's OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE degree may offset required years of experience on a 1:1 basis, e.g., a two year master's degree in lieu of two years of experience.
