The candidate will assist with laboratory experiments related to fungal natural product drug discovery and characterization at the direction of their supervisor. Under guidance from the PI, the candidate will assist with experiments including cultivation of microbial strains, basic molecular biology, or metabolite analysis and isolation. The Research Aide will rely upon guidance and training from their supervisor with limited opportunity to exercise their own discretion. The candidate will also provide data entry of timely summaries of results and contribute to maintaining safety and equipment of the laboratory.

Required: High School graduate.

Desired: Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biological Sciences, or related field.  Demonstrated mastery of general laboratory techniques in one more area such as molecular biology, microbiology, or analytical chemistry.

The Department of Microbiology, within the College of Arts and Sciences, seeks a Research Technician to join the laboratory of Dr. Kou-San Ju.  We are an interdisciplinary research group that studies the biological chemistry of microorganisms. The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college and the academic heart of the university. The College hosts 81 majors. This position has a hiring range of $15.00-$19.43. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
