The incumbent will aid in fish ecology research in partnership with the Aquatic Conservation and Ecology Laboratory at The Ohio State University. The individual will work as part of a team that will collect fish, habitat, and water quality data in Ohio inland streams and reservoirs. The work will consist of field collections of aquatic organisms and sample processing in a laboratory setting with the ability to gain experience in active sampling techniques, fish and invertebrate identification and standardized laboratory procedures. Research will be mainly conducted in reservoirs and their inflowing rivers. Sampling effort will occur in a variety of aquatic habitats with the opportunity to sample diverse aquatic communities. This project aims to provide a greater understanding of the relative benefit of habitats within fragmented riverine ecosystems with implications for native fish conservation and the maintenance of sport fish populations.

Required: High School graduate. Applicants must be detail oriented and can work in proximity with research collaborators, as well as alone with minimal supervision. The individual must be able, with or without reasonable accommodations, to lift as much as 50 pounds, and work in all weather conditions. This position will require substantial time spent in water or near water and handling fish. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license. Must accommodate a flexible schedule (holidays, weekends, and nights) and be willing to work for 10 consecutive days.

The pay range for this job profile is $14.57 - $19.43. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
