Job Description

The primary role of the Research Advancement Administrator, Senior (RAA, Sr.) is to provide pre-award support for the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning (SGSUP) within The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (The College). The RAA, Sr. will provide direct support to principal investigators in the area of proposal preparation and submission. The RAA, Sr. will also serve as a liaison across campus between colleges, schools, departments and principal investigators in their interactions with the Office of Research and Sponsored Project Administration (ORSPA). This role will report to the research advancement team in The College. This position is a perfect role for a career growth in research enterprise. Salary Range

$66,000 - $70,000 per year; DOE


Essential Duties

  • Provides pre-award RA support for the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning (SGSUP).
  • Reviews funding announcements and provides recommendations on eligibility and sponsor requirements and documents support towards successful proposal submission.
  • Communicates and coordinates with The College research team for clarification of application guidelines, as needed.
  • Evaluates required administrative information for compliance with sponsor guidelines and institutional policies.
  • Prepares sponsor budgets in accordance with sponsor guidelines and assists Principal Investigators (PIs) with budget and budget justification requests. Assists and completes other sponsor-required forms and documents, and review for compliance, such as current and pending support, bio sketches, facilities, data management, etc.
  • Advises subrecipients on the completion and submission of documents and needed documentation and timeline.
  • Verifies cost share requirements and coordinates internal processes to garner required approvals.
  • Routes internally for approval of proposals prior to submission by the central sponsored projects office (ORSPA).
  • Finalizes and uploads proposal files for submission through institutional and sponsor submission systems such as system-to-system, Research.gov, NSPIRES, ASSIST, Grants.gov Workspace, PAMS, proposalCENTRAL, and other portals as required.
  • Assists with post-submission action items requested by the sponsor such as Just in Time requests, revised budgets, significant scope of work modifications, additional certifications, etc.
  • Assists in establishing and following a process for hand-off to post-award staff prior to and/or at award
  • Maintains all applicable project records and files.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field. Five years of experience in a field appropriate to the area/unit of assignment OR Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been achieved.

  • 5+ years of experience in pre-award
  • Experience in coordinating responses to a variety of sponsors.
  • Experience in managing multiple requests at the same time, and prioritizing.
  • Experience in using time management skills.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Experience in being team oriented.
  • Experience in training and/or mentoring staff.
  • Evidence of CRA or other qualified research administration certification.

Working Environment

  • Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting.
  • Use office equipment including a desktop computer.
  • Lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Communicate to perform essential duties.
  • Work both independently or within a complex structured team.
  • May determine methods and procedures on new assignments and may provide guidance to unit personnel.
  • Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

SGSUP is an academic unit within the division of Social Sciences in The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (The College). SGSUP has a large research portfolio spanning a broad range of sponsors.
