 Manages grant administration duties and supports all related operations to ensure resources are properly allocated to support research needs. Oversees financial activities and account reconciliations. Serves as primary contact for all grant and contract issues.
The School of Computing and Information, Office of the Dean, is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the role of Research Administration Manager. This position will provide high-quality support to faculty and lead research administration and payroll teams. This position will manage and approve the process for research proposal preparation and submission for grant applications that are primarily funded by federal and state agencies, non-profits, and foundation sponsors. The individual filling this position will be responsible for oversight of pre-award activities as well as the management and support of post-award administrative functions; manage critical research-related payroll activities; analyze funding trends; gain and maintain current knowledge of federal grant policies across multiple agencies such as NSF, NIH, and DARPA; and keep up to date with changes in the research environment. The incumbent will interpret and apply University and Federal Agency policies and procedures. The ability to lead the research team, manage several tasks simultaneously and respond quickly to changing priorities is essential to the success of this position. Leadership: - Provide leadership, oversight, and operational support of key pre-award activities of the PI and pre-award administrator including proposal review, approval at the department and school level. - Guide and support the daily tasks and operations of the pre-award & financial research administrator, ensuring resources are properly allocated to support evolving research needs. -Conduct, report, and review data and analyses for special inquires and issues as needed. -Assist to establish, report, and monitor metrics for overall performance of business processes. -Ensure compliance and effectiveness of the Research Administrative Team -Assist with process review, improvement, and training for research administrators. -Be knowledgeable about federal grant polices and keep up to date with changes in the research environment. - The incumbent will interpret and apply University and Federal Agency policies and procedures. - Act as school contact and liaison with other academic departments, OSP and Cost Accounting. Financial: - Research administrator will provide professional level management for the post-award process of sponsored project and contract management. - Coordinate and ensure all grant effort certification. - This position includes duties such as monthly reconciliations of sponsored project effort distributions, contract service agreements, no-cost extensions, material transfer requests, budget modification requests, salary and non-salary expense transfers, completion and processing of noncompeting continuations, meetings with faculty to review their efforts and accounts, verification and approval of salary expenditures and effort reporting on sponsored projects, expense projections, and account closings. - Manage research accounts in IT Works. - Oversight and training of staff in appropriate management of research funds/accounts, coordination of data collection for School, research administration, and sponsor reports. Performance standard Strong interpersonal skills in dealing with faculty, students and staff are necessary to assure that the School functions smoothly; strong analytical skills; accuracy is extremely important in checking accounts and all forms; broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures in the field of research accounting, post- and pre-award administration. Proficiency in the following programs is desirable: Cognos, Tableau, Oracle (PRISM), PantherExpress, and ITWorks, Vincent Pay, etc.
