Research Account Specialist

Job Summary

The Research Account Specialist will manage a designated group of faculty and institute research portfolios.  Assist with expediting projects through the steps required to bring a proposal from submission through post-award.  Work closely with faculty to shepherd the administration of research through the appropriate processes by maintaining continuous flow through proposal submission, award, and post-award activities.  Act as a designated specialist for research portfolios to promote communication among the investigator team, take responsibility for project reporting and coordination, prepare and review grant projections, and work with the Principal Investigator (PI) to address any issues.  Interface with participants, sponsors, subcontractors, and other Purdue offices including business office and sponsored program units regarding budget revisions and other financial issues on a PI’s grant including assisting with Animal and Human Subject protocols and regulatory needs.  Work with internal and external organizations to understand procedures for acquiring space, furniture, and other physical requirements of the project as needed.  Assist with hiring to ensure that University hiring processes are followed.  Assist in training of personnel that reports to the PI on operational policies and procedures.

Required:

  • BA/BS, preferably in Business Administration, Management, Finance, or a related field of study
  • One (1) year of account management, financial management, or related experience
  • Will consider an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and implement University policies and procedures
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills
  • Planning, problem-solving, organizational, project management, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to influence and build work relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels. 
  • Must possess a learning orientation to changing technology impacting business processes, e.g. SAP, etc. 
  • Personal computer and related software skills 
  • Strong quantitative skills with the ability to synthesize complex information and produce quality management reports
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that allows for demands of reporting, implementation of new projects, etc., and not so much normal business hours
