Summary

We are looking for a temporary research associate to assist in the creation and clinical validation of a new combinatoric pharmaco-genomics assay under the direction of Dr. Brian Athey in the University of Michigan Medical School.  This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research initiatives within the medical field. Project work is expected to conclude in Summer 2025.

Responsibilities*

The research associate is needed to assist with 1) developing a cohort discovery tool based on a new comorbidity-polypharmacy score, 2) analyzing pharmaco-genotypes by using data from the U-M Precision Health Initiative and the Michigan Genomics Initiative, and 3) studying the use of pharmaco-metabolomic measurements to enhance pharmaco-genomic prediction. In addition, the research assistant will meet with the Principal Investigator and other stakeholders weekly to discuss project progress.

Successful candidates will have a background in statistical analysis, data curation, and information.

  • Ability to find, extract, and analyze clinical data from the electronic health record.
  • Clean and preprocess raw data to ensure accuracy and reliability for statistical analysis.
  • Collaborate with research team members to design and implement statistical analyses and data modeling techniques.
  • Perform statistical analyses using software such as R, SAS, or STATA to generate insights and support research findings.
  • Basic Python programming skills.
  • Assist in the preparation of research reports, manuscripts, and presentations for conferences and publications.
  • Maintain accurate records of data sources, protocols, and analysis procedures for documentation and reproducbility.
  • Ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and regulatory requirements in handling sensitive health data.

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree in biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology, public health, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in statistical software such as R, SAS, or STATA for data analysis and visualization.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and communicate complex data effectively.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail in managing large datasets.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
