Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati Department of Clinical and Health Information Sciences is searching for a 99% FTE Represented Adjunct faculty member who will contribute to the department’s teaching and service missions.  This is a 12-Month per year position with rank commensurate with education and experience.


Essential Functions

This position is primarily responsible for teaching and service to the Department of Department of Clinical and Health Information Sciences and College of Allied Health Sciences. The Laboratory Instructor will assist Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS) course faculty with on-campus student laboratory sessions and facilitate courses in the online and on-campus MLS curriculum.  Teaching and service responsibilities include, but are not limited to, communication with course instructors, laboratory preparation, pre-lab instruction, facilitating lab delivery to students, lab procedure and report preparation and grading, training on equipment, purchasing and maintenance of equipment, maintenance of laboratory space, procurement of specimens, order preparation for supplies and reagents needed for lab sessions, compliance with safety and environmental health regulations, and other activities as assigned by Department Chair.  While student instruction is central to this position, service activities are also required consistent with the missions and faculty evaluative criteria of the University, College, and Department.


Minimum Requirements
  • BS in MLS, Biology, or Chemistry
  • MLS (ASCP) certification
  • Two to three years previous laboratory experience (clinical and/or commercial laboratories)
  • Two years teaching experience, classroom or bench
  • Current knowledge and skill in the use of computer technology
  • Evidence of strong organizational skills; strong interpersonal skills including communication, problem solving, counseling, conflict management, and follow-through
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Interest and ability to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team
  • Ability to assist with tasks assigned by Department Chair
