Description

 

Researches, reports, writes and produces multimedia spot and features for Houston Public Media (HPM) on-air and digital platforms. Serves as on-air program host, Individual position may be specific to either tv or radio operations.

  • Provides aesthetic and creative direction of the production process for live and recorded public media programs.
  • Conceives, researches, develops and executes ideas and concepts into program content.
  • Provides on-air hosting and verbal delivery consistent with highest professional broadcast standards: National Public Radio-NPR
  • Operates station broadcast and production equipment in a professional manner consistent with NPR standards.
  • Advance the station's public image at community outreach events.
  • Participates in station fund-raising campaigns and special events.
  • May assist station management by training other on-air talent or by serving as a team lead.
  • Curates the HPM website and shares content on various social media platforms, to include Facebook, Twitter, etc.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

     Bachelors and 3 years experience

    Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Experience: Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience. Certification/Licensing: None.

     
    Notes to Applicant: The Enterprise Reporter is driven to inform the public and collaborates with the editor to produce daily and indepth news stories for radio, podcast, and digital audiences. You will cover breaking news, news of the day and independently generate original story ideas through building reliable sources, fact gathering, and data-based reporting. This position will place an emphasis on local, community-based reporting. An Enterprise Reporter is tenacious, organized, and flexible, possesses a “can-do” attitude, motivated to delve into a story and committed to their craft. You are expected to produce and write in-depth stories on a regular basis which means you’re juggling multiple stories simultaneously through researching and interviewing sources, going where the story is to collect information and audio, adjusting your schedule to cover events and conduct interviews, requesting records, working with data, writing stories for audio and web, and editing the story using Adobe Audition. You are also communicating with editors throughout the reporting process. An Enterprise Reporter possesses strong writing skills for audio storytelling and web and has experience using data and public records in their reporting. Spanish language familiarity a plus.
