Position Summary:
 
Under the general supervision of the Director of SOM Decision Support Services, and as an integral part of the DSS technical team, incumbent is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the complex home-grown DSS systems and reports. As part of the Decision Support team, this position will play a significant role in the enhancement/modification of existing and future enterprise reports, and the maintenance/development of database programs integrated with the DSS home-grown system. The report programmer will be solely responsible for the integration of all Decision Support reports with Tableau Server, the School of Medicine visual analysis tool. This individual will be responsible for developing Tableau reports, data models, and deploying them for access by various department users through the School of Medicine. This individual will be expected to maintain in-depth knowledge of reporting techniques and visual analysis tools, provide user training, perform data analysis, and provide production support to DSS users. This individual is expected to work with SOM Associated Dean/CAO/CFO, Dean’s Office Directors, Managers and Analysts, as well as the other departmental CAOs, Managers, Analysts and Personnel, provide technical and non-technical assistance on all DSS systems.

$73,900.00 - $133,700.00 (Annual Salary)

 


Required:
 
  • Knowledge or experience of reporting/analysis tools such as Tableau, Cognos, etc. 
  • At least 2 years reporting programming experience or building experience by using database in MS SQL, Oracle, DB2, Sybase, MySQL, or MS Access or any SQL coding experience. 
  • Demonstrate significant experience in data extraction and query tools. 
  • Knowledge of using embedded procedural languages (SQL scripting) to access, update, and transfer data. 
  • Significant knowledge of and experience with import techniques and file formats (Excel, Access, SQL, CSV, Oracle, etc.) for moving data from one platform to another. 
  • Demonstrate skill to contribute technical and non-technical discussions and to recommend solutions to technical problems. 
  • Demonstrate skill to work as an independent, self-motivated productive members of a team, and a good team player. 
  • Demonstrate skill and experience in deploying new software solutions including user training, operational training, system maintenance and recovery. 
  • Experience in help desk or production support environment to technical and non-technical users. 
  • Knowledge and experience of Tableau is plus. 
  • Knowledge of UC account, finance, HR or any data warehouse is plus. 
  • Knowledge of UCI data warehouse and business systems, or any higher education data is plus. 
  • Experience in supporting Finance, Accounting, or HR team is plus. 
  • Knowledge of and experience in School of Medicine or Medical Center business functions and systems supporting those functions (accounting, payroll, research, students, physician billing) is plus. 
  • Working experience or knowledge of SQL language, Data Modeling, database, table design, Cognos, Kuali or UCPath is plus. 
  • Knowledge of DBA functions, such as SQL database backup/restore, query tuning, scheduled jobs, or execution monitor, is plus.
  • At least 4 to 5 years of relevant work experience with a BA/BS; or at least 2 to 3 years of relevant work experience with MA/MS; or equivalent work experience.
  • Intermediate knowledge of secure software development. 
  • Advanced skills associated with software design, modification, implementation and deployment, including object-oriented programming concepts. 
  • Demonstrated ability to understand functional needs and how systems can support those needs. 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop conversion and system implementation plans. 
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute technical narrative to grant proposals. 
  • Demonstrated software repository skills. 
  • Demonstrated testing and test planning skills. 
  • Thorough experience with common programming tools. 
  • Demonstrated ability to follow software specifications. 
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. 
  • Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines. 
  • Demonstrated broad problem-solving skills.
     

Preferred:
 
  • Demonstrated ability to interface with management on a regular basis. 
  • Thorough experience with identification and use of code libraries and open-source forums. 
  • Experience with planning for deployment and creation of feedback mechanisms. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
