Classification Salary Range: $3,796 - $5,369 per month

Anticipated hiring range: $3,796 - $4,320 per month

Work Hours: Flexible schedule, up to 20 hours a week

THE DEPARTMENT

Student Support and Equity Programs (SSEP) aims to make a positive difference in the lives of students through high quality programs and services that promote educational opportunity and support student learning and success. Major programs and service areas include the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), Summer Bridge (SB), Transfer Bridge (TB), Veterans Resource Center (VRC), and Renaissance Scholars (RS). RS is a comprehensive academic support program that empowers former foster youth through higher education.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Programming Development and Assessment:

  • Assist RS staff with the RS Peer Mentoring program development, implementation, and assessment.
  • Assist with program coordination, Peer Mentor trainings and evaluations.
  • Assist with creating and implementing interventions plans to assist students experiencing personal difficulties and make appropriate referrals to on and off campus as needed.
  • Assist with program tracking and program assessment.
  • Assist with facilitating Benchmark meetings with students.
  • Help coordinate educational enrichment and community building activities that foster a positive learning community and leadership development for students.

Community Engagement & Special Projects:

  • Assist with special projects related to event planning and facilitation (Student Retreat(s), Success Seminars, Holiday Social, Celebration of Excellence. etc.)
  • Assist with outreach and community engagement.

Participate in meetings, committees, and professional development activities:

  • Meet regularly with Lead; follow up on action items as appropriate.
  • Participate in SSEP and RS staff meetings, in-service training sessions, and participate in professional development activities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job‑related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.
  • Working knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior; research and observation techniques for the purpose of recording, classifying, and interpreting information; and the techniques and methods of interviewing.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data; reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences, and interviews; clearly express ideas and recommendations orally; write clear and concise reports; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and faculty.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Enrollment in a Higher Education/Students Affairs Master's program (or related field) is preferred
  • Knowledge and experience working with foster youth, low-income, first-generation, and diverse student populations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including phone and in-person, emails, texts, etc.; communicate and listen attentively.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to cultivate strong interpersonal relationships with students, faculty, and staff; and work effectively with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
  • Must protect the confidentiality of student personal information and comply with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Must comply with all university procedures and policies; interpret CSU admissions and financial aid guidelines.
  • Technology savvy; proficiency in Microsoft applications.
  • Uphold personal qualities of integrity, flexibility, compassion, and sense of humor.
