Remote Patient Account Representative II - Emergency Medicine

UTHealth Houston Department of Emergency Medicine is hiring a Remote Patient Account Representative II to join their team of professionals. The Patient Account Representative is a core position within the department of Emergency Medicine as it is in charge of reconciling information received from the Emergency Room sign-in lists to determine if patients were seen, information was coded correctly, etc. The Patient Account Representative will need to be comfortable working in multiple systems (billing system, coding system, internal systems, facility EMR systems) and be able to multi-task, communicate with providers, and enjoy analyzing and drilling down into data.

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm (Times can vary). This is a 100% remote position but must be available for potential on-site meetings/system trainings.

Please Note:  While this is a 100% remote position, if quality and/or quantity of work does not meet the standards, the position will transition to on-site until standards can be met.  

In addition to the key accountabilities listed below, the Patient Account Representative for Emergency Medicine:

  • Performs a variety of moderately complex clerical tasks to support assigned area.
  • Maintains and reconciles complex census reports/records.
  • Compiles analyzes, and interprets data from reports using required knowledge of the departmental, project, and/or university policies and procedures.
  • Performs complex data analysis in report preparation to ensure timely and accurate charge entry.
  • Receives, classifies, reconciles, consolidates, and/or summarizes documents and information.
  • Retrieves information from departmental and/or hospital records.
  • Maintains information on records and reviews trending of missing items.
  • May respond to non-routine correspondence or telephone contacts in area of responsibility within guidelines established by supervisor.

Position Key Accountabilities:

1.    Reviews incoming correspondence and takes appropriate action. Responds promptly to inquiries.
2.    Analyzes accounts for errors, adjustments and credits, issuing corrected entries when necessary.  Updates account information accordingly.
3.    Documents communications accurately and completely.
4.    May perform other duties as assigned.


Certification/Skills:

Some knowledge of business office, patient billing, or collection/ reimbursement procedures in a healthcare setting; proficient in MS Office with emphasis in Excel, 10-key and math.

 

Minimum Education:

High school graduation or equivalent required. Graduate from a vocational business school with a minor in a job related field preferred.

Minimum Experience:

Three years hospital/ medical collections experience with understanding of third party reimbursement procedures, as well as state and federal regulations governing healthcare.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
