Overview: 

We are seeking a Relocation Accounting Associate who will focus on supporting relocation functions at ORNL. This position resides in the Payment Services Group in the Accounting Operations Division of the Business Services Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).  

 

As part of our Accounting team, you will…

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Review and audit vendor invoices and reconcile settlement expenses related to international and domestic moves.
  • Review and audit payroll batch file from 3rd party vendor prior to payment relating to employee reimbursements and 3rd party expenses. 
  • Have a thorough understanding of the federal regulations regarding relocation benefits for federal contractors  
  • Ensure compliance with internal relocation policies and procedures including terms and conditions of relocation subcontract.
  • Identify, recommend, and provide methods to enhance, simplify, and optimize existing processes, procedures, and policies for continuous improvements to the relocation program and updates procedures accordingly.
  • Makes independent decisions on the validity and appropriateness vendor debits, credits, and adjustments to the AP subsidiary ledger.
  • Maintains A-123 testing plans as needed, responds to requests from A123 coordinator and updates procedures accordingly. 
  • Advises and gives guidance to internal and external customers on proper procedures within AP.
  • Provide support to management through research and analysis of anomalies causing accounting errors.
  • Prepare budget for new Off Site Assignments (OFA) and audit existing agreement expenditures and submit for payment through payroll.
  • Cross train on processes in accounts payable as directed by manager and provide support for those functions as needed.
  • Prepare GL reconciliations and audit functions as assigned.
  • Prepare or assist with fiscal and calendar year end requirements related to relocation, accounts payable, and payroll including improper payment reporting.
  • Work with SAP Functional staff on testing of support packs and other changes as required.
  • Complete special projects independently as assigned by Accounting Management.
  • Has oversight of critical IT related functions affecting the entire Payment Services organization.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree
  • A minimum of 2-4 years of experience in Accounts Payable, general accounting functions, audit, relocation or related field.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Accounting along with knowledge of UT-Battelle and DOE accounting systems, policies, and procedures is desired.
  • Experience with Accounts Payable processes.
  • Experience with SAP and other software applications is preferred. 
  • Knowledge and proficiency in use of data analytics is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to responsibly maintain work requirements and meet stringent deadlines daily, applying self-initiative and capability for working in an autonomous and independent manner with minimum direction. 
  • Excellent attention to detail and well-developed written and oral communication skills are required. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential. 
  • Requires proficiency in applying accounting principles, policies, and procedures. 
  • Position requires superior human relations skills that promote effective and positive interactions with a diverse group of others, both internal and external to company.
  • Candidate should have the ability to become familiar with the ORNL accounting system and external business applications to proficiently perform responsible tasks.
  • Must have excellent Microsoft Excel skills.
