Description: Job Summary Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Health & Wellness and lead by the Lead Campus Confidential Advocate, the Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention Educator develops and implements campus-wide initiatives that address sexual assault, dating/interpersonal violence, and stalking including workshops, training, awareness month events, and coordinated community response team. Oversees the growth and development of the Peer Educator Program and leads student assistants that participate in the program. Oversees prevention programs and initiatives for specific student populations including fraternity and sorority life, athletics, housing and residence life, and under-served communities. Advises student organizations that address and raise awareness of interpersonal violence. Represents CSULB at on campus and community coalitions and work-groups that address and prevent interpersonal violence. Serves as a backup advocate providing victim-centered confidential advocacy to student and employee victims, survivors, and complainants of interpersonal violence. Furthermore, the incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive and provide culturally sensitive services that enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student centered and equity minded approach in all communication and service efforts. Key Responsibilities
Knowledge Skills and Abilities Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively handle a broad range of interpersonal contacts including those of a sensitive nature internally and externally. Must be able to interact in a positive, professional manner with campus community, including staff, faculty, donors, et. al. especially when under pressure. Ability to recognize multicultural, multi-sexed and multi‑aged value systems and work accordingly. Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required. Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships & communicate clearly & effectively with vendors, staff, peers, administrators, Campus personnel, clients, state officials, and the public. Experience with public speaking, developing presentations, trainings, and ability to lead the audience. Ability to handle confidential matters with tact and diplomacy, and to maintain confidentiality of information as needed or to protect the rights of individuals or the University. Experience with working with a diverse group of individuals and multicultural university environment. Demonstrated skill in assisting and speaking with persons of various ages, socio-economic, cultural and/or education backgrounds. Ability to work weekends, some evenings, or flexible work time as needed and determined by operational needs. Ability to lift boxes and or items weighing 25 lbs. to move meeting materials etc. to various locations. Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence." Education and Experience Equivalent to a bachelor's degree with upper or graduate coursework in counseling and guidance, human relations, or related fields and three years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required. Department Health & Wellness Classification Student Services Professional III Compensation The salary range for this classification is $5,025 to $7,159 per month. Benefits Excellent benefits through CalPERS (health, vision, dental), tuition fee waiver, generous vacation and sick leave, and 14 paid holidays each year. Time Base Full-time temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
