Position Responsibilities


Position Summary
The Department of Theatre Arts at the University of Idaho seeks applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre, beginning August 2024. The candidate will collaborate closely with faculty from the Department of Theatre and the Lionel Hampton School of Music, as well as dance faculty from the Movement Sciences Department, and will have the ability to teach courses in a range of subjects, including acting for musical theatre, vocal performance in contemporary styles, musical theatre auditioning, as well as courses in our general performance curriculum. Other specialist areas such are choreography, and various dance styles are highly desirable. Experience delivering curricula via synchronous and asynchronous modalities is required.
Responsibilities:
Teach an equivalency of a 3/2 load; undergraduate and graduate courses in area of specialization
Undergraduate and Graduate Student mentoring
Direct within Departmental production season
Service on Department committees
Assist with departmental recruitment

Qualifications


Minimum Education/Degree Required Listed degree qualification is required at time of hire.
Required Qualifications
  • MFA in Acting, Musical Theatre, or closely related field;
  • Minimum two years teaching experience at a college or university or equivalent professional experience in musical theatre as a performer, director or musical director;
  • Experience teaching voice in contemporary styles;
  • Experience teaching musical theatre auditions;
  • Experience recruiting students to a musical theatre program.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency on the piano;
  • Experience as a choreographer.
