Position Responsibilities


Position Summary
The School of Journalism and Mass Media at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, invites a diverse group of applicants for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor of Film and Television Production. This position will begin August 2024.
The successful candidate will teach 5 courses over the Fall and Spring semesters, which is a 3/2 teaching load, in courses such as Introduction to Film & Television Production, Video Editing and Post-Production, Advanced Filmmaking, and other courses in areas of the candidate’s expertise, including but not limited to Sound Recording and Design, Documentary Film & TV, Cinematography and Lighting, or other courses. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses for the School of Journalism and Mass Media’s undergraduate programs in Film and Television or Broadcasting and Digital Media. The successful candidate will be also expected to produce creative works in film, television, or digital media commensurate with unit recommendations for promotion and tenure. Unit/Department Summary
The School of Journalism and Mass Media offers nationally accredited undergraduate degree programs in Journalism, Advertising, Public Relations and Broadcasting as well as an interdisciplinary Film and Television program and a planned master’s degree in Emerging Media. The school is part of the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences , the largest and most diverse college at the University of Idaho, and we are committed to building a just and inclusive society. Qualifications


Minimum Education/Degree Required Listed degree qualification is required at time of hire.
Required Qualifications
  • Terminal degree in film, broadcasting or a closely related field, including MFA, Ph.D.; a terminal professional master’s degree in a media-related field, defined as a master’s degree in an applied media field that is the highest degree offered in that field, recognized by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC) and regional university accrediting agencies;
  • Experience teaching filmmaking, broadcasting, digital media production, or related courses;
  • Professional experience in filmmaking, television, videography, or broadcast production.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three years of professional experience in filmmaking, television or broadcast production;
  • Evidence of excellence and experience teaching filmmaking, broadcasting, or digital media production at the college level;
  • Evidence of excellence in creative works in filmmaking, television or digital media production;
  • Evidence of media production exploring issues of identity, diversity, equity and inclusion;
  • Experience serving diverse communities or groups traditionally underrepresented in academia;
  • Experience with outreach and professional connections to the field of television, film or digital media, including active participation in professional organizations or associations.
