Job Summary

The Division of Neuro-Oncology here at UCSF cares for patients with central nervous system tumors (CNS brain tumors) from diagnosis, through all stages of their illness, including hospice and death.  Approximately 2000 patients per year are seen in the outpatient clinic.  Patients are treated with standard of care therapies as well as research protocols.  This position will work with the staff of Neuro-Oncology: neurosurgeons, neuro-oncologists, Clinical Nurses (CNII’s and CNIII), and clinical research associates in caring for this patient population under the supervision of the Administrative RN.

The primary responsibility of the Neuro-Oncology CN II is to provide comprehensive care for all brain tumor patients being followed by the Division of Neuro-Oncology here at UCSF.  He/she will work closely with the CN III’s, CNIV’s, physicians, both neurosurgeons and neuro-oncologists, who see and care for patients with CNS tumors in clinic.  He/she will assist in coordinating and overseeing the care of this patient population as they prepare for a variety of treatments, as well as those who enroll in clinical trials.  In addition to providing direct and indirect patient care, the Neuro-Oncology CNII will assist in protocol development, working with the study PI and Senior Clinical Research Coordinator.  He/she will also serve as a resource for UCSF and the community, providing education on Neuro-Oncology protocols, as well as care of the patient with a brain tumor and related topics.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications

  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ recent experience as an RN in Neuroscience, Oncology, or Research Management
  • Demonstrated clinical competence and in-depth knowledge in neurosurgical nursing, oncology nursing, and/or clinical trials
  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
  • NIHSS is required upon hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Outpatient Oncology RN experience
  • BSN from an accredited nursing program

License/Certification

  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
  • NIHSS is required upon hire
