Registered Nurse

Location: San Francisco, CALIFORNIA

Job Summary

This Behavioral Health Nursing position will require direct nursing care of our Adult Emergency Department (ED) patients presenting with a full spectrum of psychiatric diagnoses, substance abuse issues, along with both chronic and acute undifferentiated medical issues.

Currently, psychiatric patients in the ED experience long lengths of stay creating patient anxiety, increased WPV, strained resources often severely impacting capacity management and fragmented psychiatric care. Opportunities for stabilization, discharge and hospitalization are routinely missed due to lack of specially trained psychiatric staff to meet the needs of these complex patients.

The Behavioral Health Nurse will be embedded within a multidisciplinary team in a consulting role that will require practicing within a set of nursing interventions utilizing current clinical knowledge of both psychiatric and medical illnesses. Responsibilities will include contraband searches, complete 5150s, BH assessments, CIWA monitoring, restraint application, safety rounds, Code 99s, Code 100s, referrals, dispo planning, evaluation, and documenting results of psychiatric interventions, taking histories and collateral discussions with patients and/or others that may impact care during their ED stay. The Behavioral Health Nurse will be working very closely with the ED Nurse who has primary responsibility for the medical care of the Psychiatric Patient until discharge or admitted.

All Nursing care is provided in the Emergency Department, with interactions occurring with Emergency Department staff, SAWs, Providers, APPs, ED Pharmacists, Social Services, Case Management, Substance Abuse Counselor, ED Discharge Coordinator, Security, UCPD, SFPD and various EMS Agencies.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
