Job Summary

Under general supervision, guided by the policies and procedures of the Medical Center and Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with providers and administrative management, the Ambulatory Oncology Nurse Care Coordinator/Clinical Nurse II/Registered Nurse works autonomously, utilizing the nursing process, to assess, plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate patient care within the ambulatory setting for a panel of pediatric, adolescent, and young adult (up to age 25) patients with oncology related conditions. The Ambulatory Oncology Nurse Care Coordinator will utilize a high level of clinical knowledge to fulfill patient needs, ensure efficient patient care, and provide patient education when necessary. The Clinical Nurse II will act as a patient advocate and as a liaison between insurance companies, inpatient/outpatient services, patients/families and all other necessary healthcare services to manage and facilitate efficient and timely care received in clinic as well as coordination of care. In addition, the Clinical Nurse II will assist in the development of patient care standards and practices.

The Clinical Nurse II is responsible for:

  • clinic procedures needed by Oncology patients including but not limited to central line care and dressing changes, lab draws, port access, medication administration, assistance during lumbar punctures including medication administration, patient assessment and any needed nursing interventions.
  • coordinating outpatient services and needs including assisting with insurance authorizations, contacting home health companies, assuring DME and other home supplies are adequate, assisting with medication refill requests, manage any needs for research studies/submissions, patient teaching and assisting in the overall coordination of timely patient care.

Please note: An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year full-time RN experience in pediatric inpatient setting
  • Recent experience with pediatric patient population in inpatient and/or outpatient setting
  • Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
  • Knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the  position.
  • Recent experience in the use of electronic medical record documentation
  • Experience with use and care of portocaths, central lines and drawing labs required.
  • Phlebotomy experience required
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience and fluency in working with computers
  • Knowledge of UCSF and APEX

License/Certification

  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
