Job Summary

Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care.  Functions as a member of the Pediatric Heart Center and carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; assists with assessment of admission and discharge needs and care coordination across settings.

The Clinical Nurse PD is responsible and accountable for providing optimal patient care and management during procedural sedation and during transport to and off-unit procedures within the medical center.  Practice will be guided by appropriate institutional standards, policies and procedures. The Clinical Nurse PD performing sedation provides initial and ongoing assessment, monitoring, intervention, and documentation during sedation and during the patient’s recovery phase; furthermore, is responsible for providing optimal patient care and management during procedural sedation. Actively participates in research, quality and performance improvement. 

This position incudes care coordination for between multiple units including but not limited to: Pre-Op, PACU, in patient units, Pediatric and Adult ICUs, ED, and ICN.  Multiple documentation and computer systems will be used at the same time requiring a high level of multi-tasking skills.  Bed flow management in collaboration with the Admissions department and Bed flow coordinators is critical.  The detailed understanding of Catheterization and Electrophysiology equipment as well as inventory management skills will be utilized on a daily basis.  In accordance with hospital Point of Care Testing (POCT) policy, the nurse must maintain competency and understanding of multiple POCT systems and quality control.  The ability to create and maintain a sterile field within OR guidelines and standards.  Ability to work in emergency situations while transitioning from a procedural to Operating room setting.  Ability to collaborate and assist anesthesiologists during critical phases of care.  The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications

  • Recent 5 years experience in recovering patients who have undergone a Cardiac Cath and/or an EP procedure.
  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
  • Active American Heart Association PALS Certification
  • Knowledge of pediatric congenital heart disease.
  • Knowledge of adult congenital heart disease.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent charge nurse experience.
  • Recent 5 years experience in a pediatric cardiac unit.
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Extensive Point of Care testing (POCT) experience
  • Recent Moderate Sedation experience.
  • Knowledge of Radiation Safety (RHB) and working with the use of Fluoroscopy.
  • Experience with an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, EPIC / APeX strongly preferred

License/Certification

  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
  • Active American Heart Association PALS Certification
