Registered Nurse, Part-Time (COVID) - University Health Services

Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for position of Registered Nurse (RN) with University Health Services within the Community Health and Well-Being Unit of the Division of Student Affairs. The Registered Nurse is a Part-time, 6-month term position with a start date after January 3, 2022 and ending on June 30, 2022 with a potential option of renewal. Part-time benefit eligibility is determined by total number of hours worked. The Registered Nurse is a vital member of a multidisciplinary team of highly skilled practitioners, health promotion and administrative professionals.

The RN is responsible for providing quality nursing care and related services to a diverse population of undergraduate and graduate students in a University Health Services setting. The work environment is a medical clinic setting. This person must share in the vision of providing quality clinical services to the Carnegie Mellon University Community. University Health Services performs over 30,000 patient contact visits annually and is a dynamic and collaborative work environment that respects and supports the professional development of its staff.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist the physicians and advanced practice clinicians in the provision of care.

  • Deliver in-person and telehealth treatment of patients/students per nursing protocols including:

  • Triage of healthcare needs;

  • Minor illnesses and injuries;

  • Administering medications and immunizations;

  • Perform phlebotomies, CLIA-waived testing, IV infusions.

  • Educate students regarding chronic illnesses.

  • Serve as an advocate for patient care and a liaison between parents, clinicians, and patients/students.

  • Maintain complete and accurate electronic medical documentation of medical care.

  • Comply with confidentiality requirements as set by HIPAA, FERPA, federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Scheduling patient/student appointments through an electronic medical record.

  • Share responsibility with UHS staff for evening and weekend hours.

  • Participate in department, divisional, and other University committees as assigned.

  • Attend and participates in regular UHS staff meetings, case conferences, and in-service/professional development training.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Nursing degree from an accredited university.

  • Certified in the State of Pennsylvania to practice nursing.

  • Demonstrated ability to complete work in an efficient and detail-oriented manner.

  • Proven record of success and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, including the ability to work well with a globally diverse student population.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to manage conflict, clear professional boundaries, and ability to work collegially and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team process.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in treating young adult populations; emergency room or urgent healthcare; college health; trans, intersex and/or non-binary healthcare; and/or women’s health
