Job Summary

The Outpatient Oncology Clinical Nurse II serves in a leadership role and delivers direct patient care to an assigned adult Oncology outpatient population.  This nurse is experienced and highly skilled with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the cancer disease process, the major treatment modalities, symptom management, supportive care, and patient education.  At this operational level, the nurse proactively embraces the Oncology Nursing Society/Standards of Oncology Nursing practice to utilize the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care.  The nurse utilizes an interdisciplinary approach across the continuum of care with adherence to National Patient Safety Goals set forth by regulatory requirements.  The nurse is recognized and utilized as a clinical resource and demonstrates investment in the overall forward movement of the unit and the organization.

Department Description

The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is an accredited National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. The NCI-Designation recognizes the scientific leadership, resources, and the depth and breadth of the research in basic, clinical and population science. As a Comprehensive Cancer Center, we demonstrate the added depth and breadth of research as well as substantial transdisciplinary research that bridges these scientific areas. The clinical services encompass adult and pediatric tumors across three campuses as well as regional satellite locations. The clinical cancer program is one of the largest clinical services at UCSF Medical Center and encompasses roughly 230 non-physician FTEs, 90+ cost center, and dozens of grant and philanthropic funding sources. At the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center we are truly pioneering care and leaders in all areas of cancer clinical care and research. We are routinely voted a top 10 program by U.S. News and World Report.


Required Qualifications

  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations
  • Minimum three (3) years of recent outpatient medical oncology nursing experience
  • Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position  

Preferred Qualifications

  • OCN Certification or other relevant specialty certification
  • Five (5) years or more of recent Medical Oncology experience
  • Five (5) years or more of recent Surgical Oncology experience
  • One (1) year of Telephone Triage nursing experience
  • BSN

License/Certification

  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
