The Registered Nurse I, under general supervision, provides direct patient care, patient evaluations, and treatment in accordance with Professional Nursing Standards.

Other Requirements and Factors - This is a security-sensitive position. The individual in this position is required to handle Protected Health Information (PHI) as defined by HIPAA regulations. The individual is required to handle PHI in accordance with the A&M System policy and is further required to complete HIPAA training as a condition of employment, within a reasonable timeframe after the individual’s employment, and on an as-needed basis thereafter.

In accordance with the federal contractor vaccination mandate , specific facilities at The Texas A&M System may be considered a covered contractor workplace with covered contractor employees. Required Education and Experience:

  • Must be licensed in the State of Texas as a Registered Nurse

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas. Ability to obtain BLS certification within 6 months of employment. Licensure/certification must be maintained for continued employment

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality

  • Ability to use and manage an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Time management capabilities and prioritization skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care - Provides direct patient care including triage of patients, physical assessments, treatments, and the administration of medication and therapy as direction. Accurately documents patient care activities in the electronic medical records (EMR) system) in a timely manner. Provides patient education. Ensures patient care areas are stocked with necessary supplies and equipment. Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes exam rooms and medical equipment/supplies according to infection control procedures. Acts in accordance with all relevant laws, rules, regulations, and professional nursing standards.

  • Administrative - Provides input toward the development of nursing policies and procedures. Assists in the general upkeep of the nurses’ stations. Serves on committees as assigned. May provide supervision for student employees in the clinic in the absence of the nurse manager. Participates in continuing education activities. Performs other duties as assigned.
