Job Description Summary

The Registered Nurse I, under general supervision, provides direct patient care and treatment in accordance with professional nursing standards.

Qualifications

Required Education:

Must be licensed by the State of Texas as a Registered Nurse.

Required Experience:

No required experience.

Preferred Education:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Preferred Experience:

One year of experience as a Registered Nurse. Previous experience in a college health setting.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas. Ability to obtain BLS certification within 6 months of employment. Licensure/certification must be maintained for continued employment.

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. Ability to use and manage an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal and organizational skills. Time management capabilities and prioritization skills.

Job Responsibilities

Patient Care

Provides direct patient care including triage of patients, physical assessments, treatments, and the administration of medication and therapy as direction. Accurately documents patient care activities in the electronic medical records (EMR) system) in a timely manner. Provides patient education. Ensures patient care areas are stocked with necessary supplies and equipment. Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes exam rooms and medical equipment/supplies according to infection control procedures. Acts in accordance with all relevant laws, rules, regulations, and professional nursing standards.

Administrative

Provides input toward the development of nursing policies and procedures. Assists in the general upkeep of the nurses’ stations. Serves on committees as assigned. May provide supervision for student employees in the clinic in the absence of the nurse manager. Participates in continuing education activities.

Performs other duties as assigned.
