Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse in Gastroenterology utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.

The Clinical Nurse is accountable for their own practice and has primary responsibility for utilizing nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of safe patient care in the outpatient clinical setting. They carry out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required and performs nursing care for patients with complex needs. The Clinical Nurse is recognized as a leader and clinical resource and demonstrates investment in the overall forward movement of the practice and organization. The Clinical Nurse serves as resource for all clinical staff and initiates and participates in patient and staff education.

The Clinical Nurse must have the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks and work well with staff, patients, and providers.  A high degree of independence, initiative, assertiveness, and diplomacy are necessary in dealing with faculty, staff, and patients in a complex environment.  They work with physician leadership in setting and accomplishing annual goals.  They work with staff to develop, monitor and maintain systems pertaining to all aspects of nursing care for the practice.  The Clinical Nurse ensures a safe environment for patients and staff.  The Clinical Nurse is responsible for providing direct nursing care to patients in the GI Motility Lab. Duties include review of incoming referrals, communicating with patients via phone calls and APeX messages.  The Clinical Nurse communicates with the referring practices and patients as needed for patient appointments. The Clinical Nurse provides education to patients regarding their illnesses, procedure preparation and patient medications.

Please note: An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of one (1) year clinical RN experience
  • Minimum of one (1) year of Ambulatory or GI experience
  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations
