Position Overview
The Regional Mathematics Specialist will work with colleagues at the University of Idaho in a professional collaborative to design and deliver high-quality mathematics teacher professional development programs.
Unit Overview
The Regional Mathematics Center at the University of Idaho is committed to improving K-12 student mathematics achievement in Idaho public schools. We work in collaboration with classroom teachers and district personnel to provide professional development opportunities grounded in mathematics education research, focused on improving K-12 student mathematics achievement, and meaningfully connected to the Idaho Mathematics Content and Practice Standards.

Position Responsibilities


Key Accountability Provide professional development activities for K-12 Idaho educators focused on research-based instructional practices to improve Idaho students’ mathematics achievement, including:
Job Duties
  • Fostering local and regional partnerships with K-12 and community organizations through development and delivery of mathematics professional development,
  • Collaborative preparation and planning meetings with teachers, administrators, and other professional development providers,
  • Design and implementation of professional development courses and workshops in face-to-face and online formats,
  • Creation and facilitation of opportunities for classroom teachers to form professional communities,
  • Collaborate with other education groups and stakeholders, such as Idaho Building Capacity,
  • Collaborate work with other Regional Mathematics Specialists throughout Idaho and the Idaho State Department of Education,
  • Ability to analyze and use school data and plan support opportunities,
  • Frequent travel to schools for embedded classroom teaching activities, and
  • Use and facilitation of online collaborative technologies.

  • Key Accountability Contribute to applied mathematics education research and professional development projects through:
    Job Duties
  • Collaborative creation and revision of professional development materials,
  • Creation and implementation of mathematics-specific courses,
  • Facilitation of professional development opportunities with classroom teachers and district leaders, and
  • Collection and analysis of research data in addressing mathematics teaching and learning, and
  • Maintaining records and assisting with report writing for Idaho Regional Math Centers.
  • Key Accountability Engage in personal and collective professional learning and development through:
    Job Duties
  • Collaboration with colleagues at University of Idaho and the Idaho Regional Math Centers,
  • Review of scholarly literature and participation in mathematics education conferences, and
  • Independent learning activities as approved by supervisor(s).

  • Position Qualifications


    Required Experience
    • 2 years of K-12 teaching experience or equivalent
    • Experience providing professional learning opportunities for teachers
    Required Education
    • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Mathematics or related field
    Required Licensures, Certifications or other
    Additional Preferred
    • Master’s Degree in Education with a focus on Mathematics Education or equivalent
    • Mathematics Coaching Experience
    • Demonstrated exemplary mathematics content knowledge for K-8 or 4-12 mathematics
