Job Description

The Regional Coordinator will assist the Regional Operations Chief with management of the region, providing regional specific training and occasional supervision and oversight of regional response to wildfire and all-hazard incidents. They will also assist in professional development of regional staff. Promote cooperative interaction with fire departments, communities, other agencies and cooperators on fire and forestry/natural resource management-related issues to promote local capacity and increase capabilities on local and statewide level. Region 3B consists of offices in Crockett, Hudson, Jasper/Kirbyville, Kountze/Olive/Woodville, Livingston, Nacogdoches and San Augustine.

Responsibilities:
-Serve as a member of the regional operations leadership team. Assist the Regional Operations Chief in the management of the region by supporting, participating and delivering agency programs assigned. Assist with and manage special projects, which may include budgeting, plan development, meetings, committee participation and other functions.

 

-Identify essential training and qualifications needed for region/area operations, assist with coordinating the professional development of personnel within the region and deliver employee trainings and assist them with obtaining required qualifications. Assist the Regional Operations Chief with ensuring readiness and operational safety of all Texas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS) emergency response and personnel within the region.

 

-Assist with coordination of response to wildland fire incidents and other all-hazard incidents and events within the Region. Serve on the agency incident management teams and as an emergency responder (including wildland fire).

Emergency response may require extended travel days 14+ away from home unit and include working long hours with minimal rest in primitive conditions and may require exposure to harsh environmental conditions such as smoke, wind, sunlight, rain and temperature extremes.  May require walking long distances, standing for extended periods, twisting, bending, reaching and kneeling.  May require lifting and carrying heavy objects.  May require driving motor vehicles for long distances.  May require operating computers with monitors for extended periods of time. Emergency response may result in exposure to emotionally stressful situations for extended periods of time. This position must meet an annual physical fitness standard by passing the Moderate level WCT.

 

-Promote interaction of region personnel with fire departments, communities, other state and federal agencies and other partners and cooperators on fire-related issues. Duties may include ensuring individual or region support of efforts such as assisting with local capacity building programs and other initiatives that increase response capabilities as local, regional and statewide level. Serving on fire prevention and wildland urban interface mitigation teams with related training and preparedness. Working with or guiding agency personnel providing post-fire community support or assessments. Supporting additional programs and projects including training academies, fuels assessments and other intra- and inter-departmental activities.

 

-Be familiar with issues at the state, area and regional levels that impact emergency response and natural resources. Assist with delivery of all agency programs related to emergency response and natural resource management.

 

-Manage and account for assigned agency credit cards, vehicle log book, Daily Activity Time Reports and any assigned agency equipment in accordance with applicable laws, rules , procedures and guidelines.

-Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
Required Education: Bachelors degree and/or 8 years of internal agency experience. Internal candidates qualified as a RSIV or higher may be used in lieu of degree.

Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Range Science, Natural Resource Management, Fire Management, Fire Administration, Emergency Management or closely related field.
Required Experience: Minimum of seven (7) or more years experience with TAMFS or comparable natural resource management agency or fire leadership role in a public agency. Thorough and demonstrable knowledge of wildland firefighting, TAMFS and experience in natural resource management.

Preferred Experience: Experience on Incident management teams. Experience with developing and implementing fuels, prevention and resource management programs. Advanced leadership experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Required Knowledge: Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and presentation technology.

Required Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills working with a wide variety of people. Excellent oral and written skills.
Required Abilities: Develop and maintain relationships with various cooperators, stakeholders and the general public. Work within NIMS/ICS environment at wildfires and at all-hazard incidents. Travel and attend/provide required training programs, meetings and other out-of-area functions. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:
Required: Valid Class C Texas Drivers License.

Preferred: Class A CDL. NWCG credentials, such as TFLD, ICT4 or C&G position. Instructor certifications through TCFP or SFFMA.

Other Requirements:
Emergency response to fire and all-hazard events is an essential duty as well as delivering a suite of natural resource management and fire department assistance program from across the Agency's programs, departments and divisions.
