Job Summary:

Reporting to the Head of Regenstein Circulation & Building Resources, the Regenstein Circulation Services Assistant will work under the direction of the Regenstein supervisor on duty. This position performs routine circulation functions and should have general knowledge of stacks maintenance and troubleshooting patron concerns relating to their library accounts and library materials.

Responsibilities:

  • Answers inquiries concerning overdue books, recalls, reserve problems, and fines in person, over the phone, and via online ticketing
  • Performs all routine circulation functions including checking in and out, renewals, and shelving of library materials including interlibrary loan and course reserves
  • Understands and implements library procedures and policies
  • Provides response to emergencies and assists patrons in contacting University Police
  • During evenings/weekends, helps to enforce policies for maintaining a scholarly 
  • environment in the Library
  • Coordinates with other circulation units in Regenstein and other campus libraries
  • Oversees the circulation and entry control desks on evenings and weekends in the absence of a supervisor

Competencies: 

  • Basic knowledge of circulation practices, procedures, and technologies preferred
  • Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
  • Strong customer service skills required
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy required• Ability to remain calm in difficult situations, and handle all interactions with diplomacy, patience, respect, and discretion required


Additional Requirements ​​
 

Education, Experience, or Certifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

Experience:

  • Previous library experience preferred
  • Significant customer service experience in a fast-paced library, retail, or similar environment required
  • Knowledge and experience with computer application such as MS Office, email, and use of internet required

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Carry or lift loads of up to 50 pounds
  • Push/pull loaded book trucks
  • Shelve and retrieve materials at varying heights
  • Work evening and weekend hours, occasionally flexing work schedule during changes in Library hours during interim breaks
  • Hear, including making fine discriminations in sound
  • See, including color, depth perception, or clarity; must be able to visually focus on print and electronic material for long periods
  • Sit for 4 hours or more
  • Stand for up to 4 hours
  • Use computers extensively for 4 hours or more
  • Make repetitive wrist, hand, or finger movements
  • Operate equipment necessary to perform job
  • Work independently without constant supervision

Pay Range:

  • $16.90 - $19.73 per hour
