Position Description


Advertised Job Summary
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions seeks a Recruitment Manager to provide support to the recruitment program for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. The Recruitment Manager will implement recruiting strategies year-round in locations dependent upon the needs of the office to maintain university representation in various markets across the country and the state when needed. This requires extensive travel as well as night and weekend work. The Recruitment Manager will utilize exceptional travel-planning, customer service, relationship-building, and presentation skills to present students, parents, and high school counselors with up-to-date information about the University of South Carolina student experience and advise them on admissions policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 3 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Traveling alone within assigned geographic region for student recruitment and professional development/ training events is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge and familiarity of USC.
  • Background experience in admissions, customer service, marketing, sales, public relations, or another student personnel area.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Relate well to people, have an engaging personality, and be able to speak with confidence in front of groups, including making public presentations before large groups of people.
  • Exceptional customer service skills to ensure positive, brand-promoting interactions with prospective students/families, guidance counselors, and other constituents.
  • Exceptional workplace flexibility and travel-planning skills.
  • Able to effectively build relationships with constituents.
  • Knowledge of secondary and post-secondary school systems.
  • Able to read and evaluate academic credentials as well as market data for assigned territories.
  • Able to operate a personal computer.
  • Able to make public presentations to groups, counsel individuals, and maintain confidentiality of student credentials.
  • May be required to organize special programs.
  • Ability to drive during the day as well as at night.
  • Must have strong writing skills.

Active recruitment of a nationwide pool of students, including those who broaden diversity of the student body, through travel to high schools, college fairs, receptions, evening and day programs, extensive personal communication, and related activities. Log all activities in admissions CRM. Provide excellent customer service by providing responses to inquiries in person, by phone, and in writing. Maintain and document regular phone, email, and letter contact with students, parents, and high school counselors; thoroughly document expenses related to recruitment travel. Attending weekly staff meetings both in person and remotely via technology provided by the office.

Lead the execution of the Undergraduate Admissions’ virtual platform and serve as the main contact for virtual events. This includes, but is not limited to: admissions information sessions, prospective student/parent sessions, admitted student sessions and relevant programming for fall, spring and summer that align with/enhance marketing, recruitment, and on-campus special event strategies. Work closely with Marketing, Special Events, and all Recruitment teams to plan, executive and monitor virtual events for each recruitment cycle.

Travel extensively and represent USC in recruiting and instructional programs. Disseminate USC admissions materials, supplies, and information. Handle speaking engagements. When in-house, conduct weekly informational admissions sessions, assist with coverage, walk-in visitors, on-campus events, and special projects as needed.

Assist with various projects throughout the year within the Student Programs and Recruitment Support team such as: Sharepoint and Blackboard management, internal training and presentations, campus partner and college department collaboration. Selectively review applications for admission and make decisions based on department policy. Carry out assigned special projects involving recruitment and office research, when in-house. Act as counselor/liaison with other campus offices which impact our prospective students to make students’ contracts smooth, helpful, and efficient.
